The Kip McGrath Education Centre in Galashiels offers professional tutoring to all children from 6 to 16, in the core skills of
Language and
Mathematics. Should your child have any problems with any area of Language or Mathematics, at any level, we can address these difficulties. We assist in preparing children for National qualifications up to Standard and Intermediate level.
We cater for ALL students at Primary and Secondary School levels - those who, for many reasons, may be experiencing difficulty with an area of their learning, and those who wish to consolidate and enhance their standards of attainment.
What is the first step?
Contact Jean on 01896 754683 or click here to arrange an initial educational assessment in the Centre. This is FREE and without obligation. Jean will discuss the results of this assessment, in confidence, with parents and outline a teaching programme. From this, Jean will draw up a personal learning plan for your child, starting at the appropriate level of understanding. This plan will target your child’s development needs and build upon existing strengths.
Next Steps...
Each child works, independently of others, on his/her personal learning plan. This involves attendance at the Centre each week for an eighty-minute tutoring session which allows for a variety of teaching activities including oral, written, practical, audio, and our unique computer-based programmes. These are designed to cater for each individual child in a highly motivating way to ensure interest, achievement – and the joy of learning.
A GTC registered tutor will teach using a one to one teaching approach. The tutor is responsible for the teaching/learning of no more than five students in a session with no two students working on the same programme. In this way, we can ensure individual attention and tutoring throughout the session for your child while enhancing the ability to work independently - a vital aspect of raising confidence and self-esteem. Goals are set - and achieved, enabling students to maximise their potential. The fostering of positive attitudes and self-belief is vital to every child's success.
Our individually tailored programmes are structured to build confidence in the classroom and increase opportunities for success at all levels. They are designed to enhance rather than replace your child's schoolwork.
An integral part of our programme is setting some homework. The tutor will discuss this with each child every week to identify and address any difficulties with learning.
