About Kip McGrath Selby

The Selby Kip McGrath centre has been established since 2018 and is run by Ruth Hodgson. We are very proud of our strong reputation in the local area for delivering results that delight both students and parents. We do not employ ‘tutors’, only fully qualified, experienced teachers who are CRB/DBS checked. Whether your child needs to catch up and master the basic skills, to be stretched further or needs preparation for SATs, GCSEs, or Entrance Exams, we can offer individual, tailored support from qualified and experienced professionals.

All our resources are unique to Kip McGrath centres and they have been thoroughly tested to ensure that your child makes continual progress in their learning. Lessons are based on individual programmes and involve teacher input, text books and bespoke software programmes and worksheets. All resources are designed to give your child success in a purposeful yet fun environment. Our services are not exclusive to those students with upcoming tests or exams as we also tutor students that need extra help with their general classwork or simply wish to remain ahead of their peers.

Meet our Centre Manager,
Ruth Hodgson

Education and teaching has always been a great passion of mine ever since a teacher at secondary school inspired me to succeed and showed real belief in my ability that I was good enough to go to university and become a teacher; since then I have never looked back. I have over 25 years teaching experience in various educational settings – I started my teaching career working in an international school in Qatar teaching primary and secondary school children and from there I moved to work in a secondary school near Doncaster. I bring a breadth of knowledge and experience to Kip McGrath Selby, having been a teacher for 25 years and a GCSE and A-Level exam marker. Outside of Kip McGrath Selby I have three dogs: two chocolate Labradors and one cocker spaniel. The cocker spaniel is called Mavis and she is the official Kip dog, often in the centre sleeping next to students and helping them focus on their studies – she is very good at calming some of the autistic students we have in the centre.
